Japan Urges Dialogue to Resolve Middle East Conflict
Speaking at a news briefing in Tokyo, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi emphasized the need for rapid de-escalation in the region, highlighting the importance of dialogue between the US and Iran and the security of the Strait of Hormuz.
Motegi underlined the role of diplomacy in preventing further escalation. “The most important thing right now is to bring the situation to a swift end,” he said.
“Multiple countries are trying to mediate the situation... between the US and Iran... So, we hope this will move in a good direction,” he added.
According to reports, Pakistan is currently facilitating communications between the US and Iran to help bring an end to the conflict.
Motegi stressed that the safety of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz “is extremely important in terms of energy security... all diplomatic efforts should be made for that purpose by the international community.”
The US-Israeli strikes on Iran since Feb. 28 have reportedly killed over 1,340 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Iran has carried out drone and missile attacks against Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting US military forces.
Reports indicate that at least 13 US servicemen have been killed and dozens more wounded amid the escalating conflict.
